3 Easy Steps to Host Your Own Food Drive 05/20/2011

1. Contact Sarah Hendrix.
Get a hold of Sarah by calling the Marshall County Neighborhood Center at (574) 936 - 3388 in order to plan your food drive.  Sarah can give you details about what kind of foods are needed at the time of your call as well as give you a way to motivate your food drive group.

2. Pick a group.
Youth groups, companies, service organizations, and more can host their own food drive to help the MCNC food pantry.  Themed food drives are also an option as the local Plymouth Wythogan Toastmasters group did.  To learn about this great idea, read about the Toastmaster's food drive.

3.  Pick your dates and start up!
A food drive can last one week or last months.  Pick the dates that are best for your food drive and make sure to tell Sarah when your food will be dropped off.  This effort will mean so much to many Marshall County families in need for food.

Marshall County Neighborhood Center's Free Family Portrait Day a Success 05/06/2011

The Marshall County Neighborhood Center recently hosted a free family portrait day for families in Marshall County.  This event was a success thanks to Angela Ridenhour of The Biography Spot. After working with MCNC at Dancing with the Stars Angela decided she wanted to use her photography skills to benefit the Neighborhood Center's clients by offering free family portraits. Over 30 families were given a free portrait session complete with two 5 x 7's and eight wallets in the pose of their choice just in time for Mother's Day.

Ridenhour commented about deciding to help by saying, "When I heard Sara Hill and Sarah Hendrix speak at the 'Dancing with the Stars' fundraiser for the Neighborhood Center at Swan Lake in February, I was impressed with their efforts and their genuine concern for the clients who receive services from the MCNC. The idea dropped into my heart to make a contribution to this very worthy organization.  The most obvious choice for me, as a photographer, was to offer a free family portrait session...everything fell into place pretty quickly."

On Wednesday, April 27th  Angela set up her equipment in the Center and photographed from noon to 7 p.m.  She stayed busy quickly moving from photographing a wide range of families like a family of 6 adults to photographing a three year old with her 17 day old sister.  "I had fun creating lasting memories for all of the families who participated," said Ridenhour. Angela also said that she would like to offer this service again and MCNC would like to thank her for finding a way to use her passion to help people. For more information on how you can help the Neighborhood Center contact Sarah Hendrix at (574) 936-3388.
