Big thank you to the Lincoln Junior High students and their food drive donations for the month of February. They collected more than 2,800 individual food items! This is enough canned and dry goods to feed 300 families for a month. We want to thank them for their amazing genrosity! We are also grateful for teacher Sarah McKenzie, who organized the campaign; and for Mr. Funsten, who is rewarding these students with an ice cream party. Thanks Lincoln - You set a great example for our community! Keep up the great work. Kids are at home from school during Christmas Break and without school lunch or breakfast. Thank you 3M!!! 08/22/2011
We are delighted to inform you that MCNC was approved for a 3M corporate giving grant. Today we received a check for $2500! 3M has shown a great deal of interest in supporting The Neighborhood Center. They hosted a very successful employee food drive in April, which brought in about 700 pounds of food. In July, Amber Moulton, Human Resources Field Representative, invited us to apply for a one-time grant through 3M's community giving plan. If you have a friend or contact with 3M, please be sure to express our gratitude for this grant award. The Map for a Successful Food Drive 08/19/2011
Due to the significant decrease in funding from grants and pledges in the recent months, maintaining adequate supply for our food pantry has become our number one priority. To meet the current demand throughout the summer, large quantities of necessary pantry items cost nearly $10,000 each month. ![]() To illustrate the continued need to restock the food pantry, see the bounty of pantry items donated by two local food drives (photo below). Food drives are a great way to replenish the food pantry needs. However, what you don’t see from this image is that just seven days later, the items were depleted and the food pantry shelves were vacant. With the loss of over $30,000 in funding, continued financial support is critical, now more than ever. There are ways you can help grow support and awareness for this urgent need. Local organizations, individuals and private businesses are leading their own food drives to help restock our food pantry shelves this summer and have included Encore Performing Arts, Maurice, Goody's, Quintin Flagg, Plymouth LP Gas, Plymouth Public Library, United States Postal Service, Washington Elementary School and Wythougan Toastmasters. We want to thank all of these groups and the individuals who donated to these drives to help us in the recent months. Serving over 1200 families throughout Marshall County, there is an urgent need for more items to be replenished on an ongoing basis. Will you and your large group help us by leading a food drive? We are seeking companies, service organizations, youth groups, students and ministries to lead up the efforts for a food drive. You may contact Sara Hill by calling the office, 936-3388, for details on the types of pantry items currently needed at the time of your drive. We’ve also provided a list of nine easy steps for you to take for a successful food drive, see checklist > Fiesta Salon is hosting a food drive for the Neighborhood Center next week. Fiesta customers will receive a $2 to $4 discount off their styling, just for bringing non-perishable food items to the salon during their visit. The drive will begin on Monday, Aug. 22 and continue through the week until Sunday, Aug. 28. The Fiesta employees are excited to serve our community and they are hoping for a great turnout. This past weekend, Maurice's offered their customers a 20% discount off purchases in exchange for food pantry donations during their shopping visit. The customers provided full bags and boxes of canned and dry goods. Maurice's store manager, Lindsay Lobenthal, shares her excitement for community service and hopes to host an even larger food drive later this summer. We are so grateful for Maurice's generosity and commitment to community! Thank you Lindsay and the generosity of all those who participated with this recent food drive! This is your new blog post. We are pleased to announce the success of some recent local food drives that have helped stock our food pantry's shelves. We are grateful for all of you who participated to help us! The recent Post Office Mail Carrier Food Drive took place on Saturday, May 14th. It brought in 3,000 pounds of food. Their total for the day was 9,000 lbs, which was split evenly between our food pantry and the Bread of Life and House of the Lord Food Pantries. Washington Elementary School hosted a Walk-A-Thon for our benefit. They provided us with several boxes of canned and dried goods. Also, the Wythougan Toastmasters led a drive that brought us many items that can be applied to "toast" including cases of peanut butter and jelly and tuna to name a few items. They also provided us with a monetary donation. Plymouth LP Gas is conducting a summer food drive, whereby they allow their customers to donate food for LP discounts. They will bring us the donations every two weeks. If you are interested in leading up a food drive, we would love to talk with you! Check out a previous blog post for how to get started, or contact our office for more details. Thank you to all who helped with these drives. Due to recent cut backs to our regular funding and donations we are in need throughout the summer to bring items into our food pantry. We would gladly accept your donated items or your initiative to lead a drive with your place of business, church or school project. 3 Easy Steps to Host Your Own Food Drive 05/20/2011
1. Contact Sarah Hendrix. Get a hold of Sarah by calling the Marshall County Neighborhood Center at (574) 936 - 3388 in order to plan your food drive. Sarah can give you details about what kind of foods are needed at the time of your call as well as give you a way to motivate your food drive group. 2. Pick a group. Youth groups, companies, service organizations, and more can host their own food drive to help the MCNC food pantry. Themed food drives are also an option as the local Plymouth Wythogan Toastmasters group did. To learn about this great idea, read about the Toastmaster's food drive. 3. Pick your dates and start up! A food drive can last one week or last months. Pick the dates that are best for your food drive and make sure to tell Sarah when your food will be dropped off. This effort will mean so much to many Marshall County families in need for food. | Welcome to the blog page of the Marshall County Neighborhood Center: The Heart of our Neighborhood.
